Take Action

Write a letter to the editor of the Albuquerque Journal tell them:

THE TIME FOR PERMANENTLY PROTECTING THE VALLE VIDAL IS NOW

Talking Points (use one, several or all of these in your letter):

- 16 northern New Mexico communities have passed resolution opposing
drilling in the Valle Vidal and asking for permanent protection;

- over 70,000 comments have been sent to the Forest Service opposing
drilling in the Valle Vidal and asking for permanent protection. 99.7%
of all comments are against drilling;

- New Mexicans are united in their opposition to the industrialization
of the Valle Vidal;

- OUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES JOBS ARE TO REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. THE
PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN;

- Only Congress can permanently protect the Valle Vidal. The Forest
Service cannot. Sen. Bingman has introduced the Valle Vidal
Preservation Act and Rep. Udall has introduced the Valle Vidal
Protection Act. We need Sen. Domenici and Rep. Wilson to co-sponsor
and push these bills forward;

- The Forest Service process wont tell us anything we don’t already
know: the people of northern New Mexico need must be able to bank on a
permanently protected Valle Vidal because it is a key component of a
sustainable economic future, it is a vital water source, it is a key
part of our cultural heritage;

  - the Valle Vidal is a vital and sustainable economic resource for the
people of northern New Mexico and must be permanently protected from
industrialization. We know this now. We dont need this threat hanging
over our heads for years to come and we dont need to wait any longer.
