PEACE WITHOUT QUALIFICATION
When you take the bodhisattva vow [a vow to help others and put them before
yourself], at this point, spontaneity without qualification arises in you;
it is basic gentleness and basic peacefulness. You begin to realize that
you can love yourself genuinely, without qualification.... It is simply
being there. The process of being there contains anti-ego. It contains
peace, because at last you have decided to give in to something
extraordinarily simple and ordinary and basic --almost at the level of
naivete. Just be with your breath; be with your discursive thoughts. That
purity brings a sense of relief and a sense of peace, which is known as
individual salvation. Peace in this case means being without complications.
It is not a state of tranquility per se; it is just basic simplicity and
basic ordinariness. That peace, that simplicity, is empty by nature. It has
nothing to dwell on or with; therefore, it is basically fresh and clean and
free from dirt, free from sloppiness. It is empty.
