THE PROBLEM OF DOGMA
East West Journal: Why is it that human beings think they know, or they do
know, what's the right thing to do with their lives, and repeatedly they
find themselves not doing it?
Chogyam Trungpa: That's a good one. Well, I think we have the problem of
dogma again. Dogma tells you to do something, and you feel it will be good
for you. At the same time, if you don't practice it, you'll be looked down
upon as such a naughty boy or a naughty girl. Rather than encouragement,
there's a sense of criticism. There's no inspiration but a punishment
orientation.
